Introduction
Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center is a 337-bed, acute-care medical center dedicated to serving the complete health-care needs of Westside residents. Founded in 1926 as Santa Monica's first hospital, the medical center features a long and illustrious history of community service.

In 1995, the medical center, which was called Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center and owned by UniHealth America, was acquired by UCLA Healthcare and renamed "Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center." Today, the medical center serves as the cornerstone of UCLA Healthcare's Primary Care Network, providing high-quality primary and specialty care to the Westside community.

In 1998, UCLA Healthcare signed a strategic alliance with Orthopaedic Hospital in downtown Los Angeles that will result in the relocation of Orthopaedic's world-class inpatient services to Santa Monica when the replacement hospital for Santa Monica-UCLA is completed in 2005. At that time, the new facility will be renamed Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital.

Continuing to build on that association, Santa Monica-UCLA is planning a state-of the-art community health center that will be unveiled in the near future. Our website will keep you posted as we progress through the various stages of this expansive project.
