Introduction

With a building gross area of approximately 1,040,000 square feet, the building consists of eight floors above grade and two basement levels. The program for each floor is as follows:

Second Basement (B2) Parking and mechanical spaces
First Basement (B1) Hospital support, loading dock, and food services
Ground Floor Public lobbies, emergency center, non-invasive imaging, and administration
Second Floor Invasive procedures, invasive imaging, and observation beds
Third Floor Neuro-rehab unit, interventional support, and major building spaces
Fourth Floor Psychiatric care units, day hospital, and medical/surgical ICU suites
Fifth Floor Children's Hospital, including pediatric acute and intensive care units and neonatal ICU, and obstetrics
Sixth Floor Medical/surgical acute and intensive care units, neuro-diagnostics, and clinical research support.
Seventh Floor Acute cardiology units, CCU, ICU, and cardio-diagnostics
Eighth Floor Medical/surgical acute, intensive care units, and dialysis unit
The shape of the building is primarily defined by the configuration of the fourth through eigth floors. Three-quarter circular nursing units, each consisting of 26 beds per floor, anchor the northeast, southeast and southwest corners, while a V-shaped ICU defines the northwest corner. Main corridors on the floors terminate at exterior windows, and pass by glazed exterior walls between nursing units, allowing daylight to enter the building extensively, as well as providing orientation to visitors.
