This is the main entry level for the hospital for all visitors, patients, families, faculty, students, and staff. There are three entry points to the building.
- East Entrance off Westwood Boulevard and the new Westwood Plaza
- West Entrance off Gayley and Circle Drive
- South Entrance off the new plaza between the Medical Plaza and the new hospital
The East Entrance will be the main entrance to the hospital for patients and visitors arriving by car as well as for faculty, students and staff crossing from the new School of Medicine, the remaining Center for Health Sciences, and the research facilities to the east.
The West Entrance will be the Mattel Childrens Hospital at UCLA entrance as well as the vehicular entry point for patients and visitors coming to the campus from the north or west.
The South Entrance will be a highly used pedestrian entrance for all patients, visitors, and faculty moving between the hospital and the Medical Plaza. Therefore, this is a significant entrance and will be treated in the same manner as East and West entrances and will open into the same lobby areas as the other two entrance points.
The lobbies at each entrance are interconnected by a wide corridor concourse, facilitating movement from one end of the building to the other. In addition, this concourse will connect the east and west public elevator lobbies with the main lobbies. A central information desk and security stations will be located along this concourse as well.
The Ground Floor is divided functionally into two areas:
- Clinical care area to the north
- Public and administrative aarea to the south
The clinical functions include the Emergency Department, Non-invasive imaging, and the Observation Unit. Access to the Emergency Department will be through the Walk-in Entrance located off the Gayley and Circle Drive intersection or through the ambulance entrance off Circle Drive. Visitors and families in the Emergency Department will have access to the main lobbies of the building but access ro the Emergency Department by all others will be discouraged to maintain security.
The public and administrative area includes all the lobbies, the concourse area and access to the public elevator lobbies, the Gift Shop, Interventional Waiting, Admitting and Cashier, Patient Care Services, Patient Relalions, Pastoral Care, Faculty Offices for Imaging, and Executive Offices. The interventonal Waiting area will be designed as an indoor/outdoor space to take advantage of the plaza between the 200 Building and the hospital.
