This is the first of the "typical" floors in that the building mass and configuration of the quarter circle pods and the triangular intensive care units are expressed on the exterior of the building. This floor is designed as the Psychiatric Hospital with 75 inpatient beds and an outpatient Day Hospital for 100 patients. The triangular nursing units will be assigned to medical/surgical beds, possibly an intensive care unit.
If the census for inpatients in the Psychiatric Hospital should decline due to reduced length of stays or the trend toward more outpatient care, the northeast pod might be designated as a medical/surgical nursing unit in part or in its entirety.
Due to the need for outdoor recreation spaces and the additional space requirements for Dining/Day Rooms and the number of group rooms required to support the Day Hnspital, the southern portion of the center area is larger on this floor only. This area also has access to the south terrace on the roof of the mechanical floor.
