Location
The site for the new hospital is bounded by Westwood Plaza, Charles Young Drive, and Gayley Avenue as well as the Medical Plaza to the South. Before the recent demolition, the site housed Parking Structure 14 and several small campus support buildings. These buildings have been demolished to make way for the new hospital.
Program
The new Hospital will consist of 525 patient beds, including both high-acuity and intensive care, and 65 observation beds. Among the functions to be included in the hospital are the Mattel Children's Hospital, the Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Women's Services, Diagnostics and Treatment, and Faculty Offices. Support Services include pharmacy, clinical labs, the food service kitchen for patients and cafeteria, and central loading dock.
Site
Two main entrances serve the hospital. On the east, the entrance and lobby are related to Westwood Plaza, the main vehicular access to the academic campus from the south. On the west is the entrance and lobby for the Mattel Children's Hospital. A secondary entrance, adjacent to the Mattel Children's Hospital drop-off area, is the public entrance to the emergency department. Another entrance to the south provides a link with the existing Medical Plaza buildings.
Both the east and west entrances have drop-off zones for visitors and patients. Adjacent to the drop-offs are ramps giving access to the basement parking level. Exiting from the parking occurs at the southwest corner of the site. Truck access to the loading dock is off Gayley Avenue.
